Welcome to Scenic Chattanooga

Hi! I'm the Chattanooga Cruise Director. My friends call me that because I try to organize fun activities, and am always trying to stay "in the know" about what's going on in my city. I also happen to work in the tourism industry, but that doesn't really give me any inside knowledge. Just a great job. I check out things going on in Chattanooga because I love to be a "tourist" and I just LOVE Chattanooga! Join me as I check out attractions, restaurants, events, and maybe the occasional shop or boutique.

Welcome to ScenicChattanooga.net!

Whether you want to climb mountains, go white-water rafting, go to a one-of-a-kind attraction, or see arts and culture at their finest, Chattanooga is the place to be.

The Scenic City

Chattanooga, Tennessee, also known as the "Scenic City", provides the best of all worlds by being located on the Tennessee River and near beautiful mountain panoramas. The fact that it is at the crossroads of I-24, I-75, and I-59, and approximately two hours from Atlanta, GA, Nashville and Knoxville, TN, and Birmingham, AL have also earned it the moniker "The Gateway of the South."

Chattanooga Choo Choo

Chattanooga has its own song, Chattanooga Choo Choo by Glenn Miller, a history of famous people, such as Bessie Smith, Samuel L. Jackson, Terrell Owens, and Usher, and also just happens to be the home of the Moon Pie.

Clean and Green

Chattanooga, which was once the most polluted city in the nation, has become a center for green development and outdoor enthusiasts. Downtown Chattanooga has a free electric shuttle system that connects all of downtown Chattanooga, as well as the Northshore District, and the first certified green movie theater in the nation.

Get Outdoors Again

The Atlanta Olympics even ran part of the Whitewater competition in the nearby Ocoee River, with its famous Class IV rapids.

Lookout Mountain and Downtown

The Scenic City is home to the world's largest freshwater aquarium, one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world, an amazing historical heritage including one of the bloodiest battlegrounds from the Civil War, and so much more! Take a trip to Lookout Mountain by way of the world's steepest passenger railway, The Incline. When you reach the top, you can visit Rock City and Ruby Falls, as well as many points of interest about the Civil War. When you return to downtown Chattanooga, that's where you will find the Chattanooga Choo Choo, the Tennessee Aquarium, and several museums and cultural opportunities.

Baseball and Riverboats

You could always stop by AT&T Field to catch Chattanooga's minor league baseball team, The Lookouts, between April and the end of August (this year they are playoffs bound!) or you can even head over to the Northshore of the Tennessee River and take a ride on the Southern Belle Riverboat, or choose to stay the night at the historic Delta Queen, which is docked in Chattanooga and being run as a boutique hotel.

Festivals, Markets, and Special Events All Year Long

There's so much to see and do in Chattanooga, it's hard to believe there's more than just the regular attractions, but depending on what time of year you visit, you can almost always find a festival or an event to immerse yourself in. Riverbend is a Chattanooga tradition that brings musicians from all over for 9 days of music and festivities on the river every June. And if you have some extra time, you can always run up the road to catch some of Bonnaroo in nearby Manchester, TN. The two festivals run around the same time each year. There are also performance venues such as The Memorial Auditorium, The Tivoli Theater, and The Mackenzie Arena which house concerts and touring shows, as well as The Chattanooga Theatre Centre, the oldest community theater in the country.

More Than a Single Vacation

There is so much to do and see in Chattanooga, you should get started now! The folks are friendly and the trip is worth it.

Let's Chatt again soon!
