We had a friend in from out of town and wanted to de-stress from the week. The restaurant of choice was the Terminal Brewhouse in Downtown Chattanooga next to the Choo Choo.
The Terminal is a new local brewery that uses local products as much as possible, and is making a conscious effort to be "green".
The atmosphere is very relaxed and great for a group outing, or a casual date. We even saw some people signing papers to close on a house!
Southsidenstein Stout
We started with some libations from the bar, and although none of us drink beer, I must point out that I've heard that the beers are as good as their names. My favorite is named Magnum P.A., an India Pale Ale, but there are others named in an equally clever way. (Rock Out with Your Bock Out, Southsidenstein Stout, Terminally Ale)
First, the Appetizer ...
We proceeded to our table after a relatively short wait for a Friday night, and ordered appetizers. We shared the Brewhouse Nachos (half/$5.50, Full/$7.50) and the Pizza Pi ($5.50). The Nachos are unusual in that they feature pot roast as the meat of choice, but as odd as it sounds, they are absolutely phenomenal. The Pizza Pi is basically pizza fixin's in an egg roll wrapper. Scrumptious!
Nobody Goes Hungry
Then we moved on to our entrees. I had the Chick Power Stuffed Sandwich ($8), and since I'm not a fan of onions it was no problem to ask the server to leave them off. Even without the onions, it left plenty of chicken, bacon, 'shrooms, and mozzarella cheese with barbeque sauce. Luckily, I had friends to help me, because there was no way I could finish it all!
I had heard about the Bison Burger ($9) and one of my friends got it. After much discussion, she was convinced to get it cooked medium... which is perfect for Bison, although not as appetizing for some when eating hamburger. She got her burger with sweet potato fries which were a great accompaniment.
The guys were a little more "classy" than the girls and chose Pepper Smashed Steak and a Bello the Ball. (See, even the entrees have really fun names!)
The Pepper Smashed Steak ($13) includes a roasted garlic, peppercorn, Maibock infused reduction over marinated steak medallions. It is served with mashed sweet potatoes and Spinach a la Term, which is apparently a Terminal invention since I can't find it on Google.
The Bello the Ball (small/$8, Full/$12) includes Portobello Mushroom caps filled with spinach, feta cheese, and grilled onions. It is partnered with braised red cabbage and green bean casserole.
Just Desserts
The only draw-back was that, if I had room for dessert, the two options given on the menu did not sound wonderful to me. Maybe you'll think differently... Sweet Potato Cheesecake and The Brewer's Wife Stout Bundt Cake.
Overall, I give the Terminal Brewhouse 5 out of 5 Clipboards, and I can't wait to go back!
