Welcome to ScenicChattanooga.net
Whether you want to climb mountains, go white-water rafting, go to a one-of-a-kind attraction, or see southern art and culture at their finest, Chattanooga is the place to be.
The Scenic City
Also known as the "Scenic City", Chattanooga provides the best of all worlds by being located on the Tennessee River and near beautiful mountain panoramas. Being located at the crossroads of I-24, I-75, and I-59, approximately two hours from Atlanta, GA, Nashville and Knoxville, TN, and Birmingham, AL has earned it another nickname "The Gateway of the South."
Chattanooga Choo Choo
Chattanooga has its own song, "Chattanooga Choo Choo" by Glenn Miller, and a history of famous people, such as Bessie Smith, Samuel L. Jackson, Terrell Owens, and Usher. In addition, Chattanooga just happens to be the home of the Moon Pie.
Clean and Green
Chattanooga, which was once the most polluted city in the nation, has become a center for green development and outdoor enthusiasts. Downtown Chattanooga has a free electric shuttle system that connects all of downtown Chattanooga, as well as the Northshore District. And, Chattanooga has built the first certified green movie theater in the nation.
Get Outdoors Again
The Atlanta Olympics in 2000 even ran part of the Whitewater competition in the nearby Ocoee River, with its famous Class IV rapids.
The Scenic City is home to the world's largest freshwater aquarium; one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world; an amazing historical heritage including one of the bloodiest battlegrounds from the Civil War; and so much more!
Lookout Mountain and Downtown
Take a trip to Lookout Mountain by way of the world's steepest passenger railway, The Incline. When you reach the top, you can visit Rock City and Ruby Falls, as well as many points of interest about the Civil War. When you return to downtown Chattanooga, that's where you will find the Chattanooga Choo Choo, the Tennessee Aquarium, the Walnut Street Bridge, and several museums and cultural opportunities.
Baseball and River Boats
You could always stop by AT&T Field to catch Chattanooga's minor league baseball team, The Lookouts, between April and the end of August. Or you can even head over to the Northshore of the Tennessee River and take a ride on the Southern Belle Riverboat, or choose to stay the night at the historic Delta Queen, which is docked in Chattanooga and being run as a boutique hotel.
Festivals, Markets, and Special Events All Year Long
It's hard to believe there are more than just the regular tourist attractions here in Chattanooga, but depending on what time of year you visit, you can almost always find a festival or an event to attend. The Riverbend Festival is an annual Chattanooga tradition that brings musicians from all around for 9 days of music and festivities on the river every June. And if you have some extra time, you can always run up the road to catch some of Bonnaroo in nearby Manchester, TN. The two festivals run around the same time each year. There are also performance venues such as The Memorial Auditorium, The Tivoli Theater, and The Mackenzie Arena which house concerts and touring shows, as well as The Chattanooga Theatre Centre, the oldest community theater in the country.
More Than a Single Vacation
There is so much to do and see in Chattanooga you might have to visit here twice! The folks are friendly and the trip is worth it.
